KELOWNA CHURCH OF CHRIST
1 Peter 1:19: "Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets [God's Word]. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts."
God: We believe in only one eternal God, existing in three ‘persons’ – Father, Son & Holy Spirit (Luke 3:22; Matt. 28:19; 2Cor. 13:14).
Jesus Christ: We believe in Jesus, His pre-existence and Deity & His existence as fully God and fully man (John 1:1-3), His virgin birth (John 1:14; Matt. 1:18-23), His sinless life (Heb. 4:15), His death on the cross (2Cor. 5:21); bodily resurrection (Luke 24:36-43), and imminent and personal return (Acts 1:11).
Holy Spirit: We believe in the Holy Spirit (John 16:7-15; Acts 5:3-4) and His ministry of convicting man of sin, giving new life to whose who respond to God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. He lives in believers and guides them in truth and godly living (Eph. 3:16; Acts 1:8; Gal. 5:22-23) empowering them to live holy lives.
Sin: We believe all have sinned (Romans 3:23) except Jesus Christ. Sin separates mankind from God and the result of sin is spiritual death (Romans 6:23).
Salvation: We believe we are saved by grace alone, through faith in Christ alone (Eph. 2:8). We receive God's grace by responding in obedient faith (Matt. 7:21-23; 1 John 2:3-6).
Obedient faith is evidenced by repenting of sin, confessing Jesus as Lord, and being water baptized (Romans 6:3-4; Acts 2:38; 22:16). In response to our appeal for grace, God forgives us, sending His Spirit to live inside us (Gal. 3:26-27; Col. 2:12; 1Pet. 3:21).
Though salvation can never be earned, we still must choose to accept it (obedience by its very definition demands a choice).
The Bible: We believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word, and as such is worthy for teaching, and correcting us in every area of life (2Timothy 3:16-17; 2Peter 1:21).
